Why an intervention? Only ten percent of the individuals that need help receive treatment. That is an astounding figure.. Alcoholism/drug addiction is a progressive, terminal disease characterized by delusion and denial. The addicted individual left to their own devices are doomed to continue a downward spiral. IT IS A DEADLY MYTH TO BELIEVE THAT THE ADDICT MUST ASK FOR HELP AND MUST “HIT BOTTOM”. Studies show that the chance for recovery remains the same no matter how the person reaches treatment..An intervention serves to raise the bottom by creating a crisis in order to break through denial.
An intervention should be carefully orchestrated by a professional. It helps the addict understand the need for treatment. Family and friends are typically involved in the process. The intervention program is designed to give “concerned others” the skills, knowledge and support necessary to help the addict help themselves.
The interventionist is responsible for not only the intervention but to find a treatment center that is suited to the addict. There are many reasons that are important to consider- financial, location of said center, is it gender specific, is dual diagnosis, treated i,e, mental health problems and what addiction does the treatment center specialize in? These are the addictions that are the most prevalent- alcohol, drugs, food, sex, gambling and debting. Each addiction has its destructive element that needs to be addressed.
Many concernecd persons become used to the addicts behavior and thus have a difficult time making a decison to get help for them. Interventions are a life saving technique. Please phone us so that we may help you.
